Nikko's Charity Cottage

Raising Funds took a different turn on Monday when Hotel Nikko launched its Festive Charity Cottage, the team led by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and the hotel's Food and Beverage Director Ronald Brooks.

The other guests of honour at the occasion were 109 children from Pertubuhan Pengasuh, St Barnabas Home, Titian Kasih, Ambu Illam and the Christian House of Orphans Selangor, Tan Sri Datin Paduka Seri Hajjah Zaleha Ismail, Head of the Advisors Board for Yayasan Harapan Kanak-kanak Malaysia and Gilbert Chai, the hotel's Director of Sales and Marketing.

This is Nikko's year-end charity project organised in collaboration with YHKM, which is under the patronage of Datin Seri Datuk Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Abdul Razak. The organization is currently on a fund-raising drive for its Miracle of Hope Home.

When completed, the home will offer shelter and medical care for children suffering from HIV/AIDS. Funds collected from the Festive Charity Cottage will also be chanelled to Jason Ng from Bukit Mertajam and Nur Natasha Ang from Ipoh, both aged three, who require corrective heart surgery.

The Festive Charity Cottage - six feet wide and 10 feet high - is made of baked gingerbread, X'mas cookies and festive decorations. fencing the Cottage are Christmas trees, foot-high nutcrackers, snowflakes and snowmen.

The gingerbread and cookies were made by Pastry Chef Ahmad Sanif, assisted by Assistant Chef Baker Rozaimi Zainal and Demi Chef de Partie Najib Hamzah, using 200kg of flour, 2kg of Lebkuchen spices, 12kg of honey, 8 kg of sugar, 20kg of milk and 40 eggs.

"Hotel Nikko has always participated in charity events and will continue to offer aid to the less fortunate," Brooks said. "For a minimum contribution of RM100, names or company logos will be featured on the Cottage or tagged to Christmas trees and nutcrackers to indicate our thanks.

Ng, Brooks and Chai also gave away Christmas goodies and Christmas ang pows to the children.

The project will end on December 31 and funds will be disbursed to the recipients by the first week of January.

If you want to help this worthy cause, drop by at the Festive Charity Cottage from 10am to 10pm, any day of the week, or call 03-2782-6339 or 2782 6337.
