Awesome Gaming Machine
Designed like a racing car, the Acer TravelMate 8210 performs like one too. It can take on any PC game even graphics-intensive racing titles like ToCA Race Driver 3 or Boiling Point, a first-person-shooter.
This supercharged notebook TravelMate 8120 is built tough. Its top shell is made from strong but light carbon fibre - the same material used in sports cars. Acer's Dasp (Disk Anti-Shock Protection) technology acts as an airbag cushioning the notebook from bumps and knocks.
Unathorised users wanting to lay their hands on the TravelMate 8210 or its data contents will find Acer's security measures in their way. For example, the Acer eDataSecurity protects sensitive data while the Acer SmartCard acts as a key allowing authorized users access to the notebook.
In the engine department, it is all top-end. What drives this notebook is an Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0 GHz processor complemented by 2GB DDR2 RAM and a 160GB hard disk. GA LCD screen will definitely please gamers and multimedia enthusiasts with its bright, sharp features. These high-end components translate to awesome performance.
There were no visible lags in between frames when playing ToCA Race Driver 3 - even with the entire graphics settings set to maximum.
The driving experience during the game was realistic; you can see debris flying all over when you crash your vehicle and gravel churning in the dust when you skid off course.
It is not surprising the TravelMate 8210 scored a high 2,058 ponits on the 3DMark 06 graphics bencmark test. Despite its high engine capacity, its battery life is surprisingly good for a notebook in this class.
According to the MobileMark 2006 benchmark test, the TravelMate 8210 lasted some 245 minutes and scored an equally high performance rating of 204 points. With its flexible configuration, the TravelMate 8210 satisfies not only gamers, but multimedia enthusiasts, too.
The test machine, for example, comes with an 8X DVD super multi-double layer optical drive. The MediaBay allows users to remove the optical drive and replace it with a second hard disk or a back-up battery.
For multimedia enthusiasts, this flexibility allows them to configure the notebook according to their changing needs. Acer is also generous with ports and slots. The four USB 2.0 ports, IEEE 1394, Fast IR, S-video, VGA and a five-in-one card reader lets users transfer data easily to and from the notebook. Other value-added features include a built-in webcam, WiFi and Bluetooth.
A powerful engine, numerous expansion options and generous connectivity options adds weight and size to the TravelMate 8210. At 3kg, this bulky notebook is certainly no travel companion. This is arguably the only complaint about the machine.
